Welcome Back!

New school year! New art projects! Yipppeee!

Some of my handy work to spruce up my room. It was a bulletin board in the hallway that said Paint Your Own Future. I couldn't throw it out, so I hung it up in my room.

4/5 Henna/ Zentangle Hands

4th and 5th graders learned about the ancient art of Henna Design. We compared it to the modern art of Zentangles. They created their own Henna Hands starting with their name.

Wang Yani Monkey Paintings

Another great one day painting project with 1st grade. I showed this short video of Wang Yani painting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVxk7b9HigM&feature=player_embedded They love it! Seeing someone their age painting and being a famous artist just blows their minds. I love how creative they get and the freedom they have painting this way. I also play Beethoven's 5th Symphony while they paint because that is what Yani listened to as well.

End Of Year Project:)

Great Project for the end of year- construction paper play grounds! I did this grades 1-3 and all levels loved it and were so engaged. It's also a great way to use up any scrap paper you have. Definitely will be doing this again!

Clay Lady Bugs

1/2 Grouchy Lady Bugs

"I Wish' Poems

Easy one day project with 5th graders. I took their photographs while they finished up our previous project. They had to write out 4-5 wishes they had for themselves, and not all could be materialistic items. I showed them how to make yarn pom pom for the dandelion flower. They were cute and cool to have on display for their D.A.R.E. graduation.

Paper Mache Crocodiles

Third graders learned all about crocodiles! Did you know crocodiles can have up to 30 sets of teeth in their lifetime? Once a tooth falls out, another grows right back in! They also have very good hearing, and can roar like a lion! These are just a few of the interesting facts they learned. Third graders first drew an aerial view of a crocodile from cardboard and then cut it out and traced it a second time and cut it out. They taped these two pieces together and stuffed it with newspaper. Next, they did two layers of paper mache with newspaper and then with construction paper. Lastly, they painted on some details with tempera paint. They did a great job and turned out awesome!

Chihuly Ikebanas

Dale Chihuly is a sculptor who works with blown glass. He studied sculpture in Madison, Wisconsin. 4th Graders learned about the art of blowing glass. Chihuly has created a blown glass art form that he calls Ikebanas. 4th graders made Ikebanas out of recycled water bottles and tissue paper. They created flowers and other details to create the same swirly effect that Chihuly’s glass pieces create.

Paper Mache Birds

I wanted to do another sculpture project with the 2nd graders before the school year ended, but it had to be somewhat simple because the end of the year is always hectic with field trips, assemblies, sports day, ect.  These paper mache birds were a great two day project. Simple ball of newspaper paper mached with construction paper on day 1, and then details and a nest made from a brown bag on day 2.
